ACTION: X INFORMATION:
The Countyís Geographic Information System Website (GIS-Web) has been available to County staff as a link on the Inside Albemarle Intranet site for over six months. The GIS-Web enables users to independently access, query, and map up-to-date parcel and other location based information from a single source using a standard Internet browser. The GIS-Web has increased staff productivity and efficiency by providing easy access to integrated data and mapping from a variety of sources such as the GIS, the CityView development tracking database maintained by the Department of Community Development and the Real Estate Divisionís Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) database. Over the past six months, GIS-Web functionality has been assessed and refined for a planned rollout to the public accessible as a link on the Countyís Internet website.
Goal 1: Enhance the Quality of Life for All Citizens
By extending GIS-Web access to the public, customer services will be significantly enhanced. Customers will have the ability to interact with and display a multitude of data and mapping such as school districts, zoning, magisterial districts/voter precincts, conservation easements, historic resources, topography, aerial photos and points of interest (parks, libraries, recreation/tourism, hospitals, post offices, etc.). In addition, customers will be able to look-up public notice sign details for zoning activity, address assignments for new construction, and perform data queries, abutting owner and recent sales searches. The results of queries can be downloaded and maps can be printed directly from the GIS-Web.
GIS-Web users can access parcel and other location based data in various ways. Search options include the ability to locate property records by address, owner name, tax map/parcel number and subdivision name. These search options are consistent with the search options that have been available on the Countyís Internet website since 2002 via the Real Estate Records application (tabular data from the Real Estate Divisionís CAMA database). In addition, the new CityView Development Tracking System Web application that is slated to be deployed on the Internet later this calendar year will also include these search options (among others).
There is no anticipated budget impact.
Authorize staff to deploy the GIS-Web application on the Internet accessible as a link on the Countyís Internet website.
