June 11, 2019 Primary Elections Information

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA - A dual Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. All county voting precincts will be open for this election.

The Republican party primary election will be to nominate the Republican candidate for Virginia State Senate, 17th District and will be confined to voters in that Senate District, which includes voting precincts in northeastern Albemarle County.

The Democratic Party primary election will be to nominate the Democratic candidates for Virginia state Senate 17th District, Virginia state House of Delegates 57 th District, Albemarle County Sheriff, and Albemarle County Board of Supervisors-Rivanna Magisterial District.

Albemarle County voters who are registered in the 17th State Senate District cannot vote both party ballots. Voters will have to advise the election officers in their voting precinct as to whether they wish to vote the Democratic ballot or the Republican ballot. (See Va. Code § 24.2-530.)

To view the Albemarle County ballots for the June 11 primary election, go to the Voter Registration homepage and click “Current Ballot .” To view the ballot style for your precinct and district, click on “Polling Place ”, and then select your precinct.

Voters may check their current voting locations by calling the Albemarle County Voter Registration Department at 434-972-4173, or visiting the Virginia Department of Elections website: vote.virginia.gov.

The Deadline to register to vote for the June 11 primary election is Monday, May 20, 2019. Voters are strongly encouraged to inquire before the registration deadline if they wish to check their voter registration status.

The qualifications for voter registration in Virginia are:
-must be a citizen of the United States;
-must be 18 years of age on or before the date of the next general election;
-must be a resident of Virginia;
-must provide his/her full name, date of birth, residential address, and full Social Security number on the voter registration application;
-must not have been adjudicated a felon or mentally incapacitated, unless the applicant’s voting rights have subsequently been restored by the appropriate authority.

There are many ways to register to vote, vote, and change voter registration information. Qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may apply for, or change their voter registration at the Department of Voter Registration and Elections located in the 5 th Street County Office Building at 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.

Qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may also apply for, or change their voter registration at the Department of Motor Vehicles-Pantops Customer Service Center , at 2055 Abbey Road, Charlottesville, 22911. Please check with DMV-Pantops for office hours.

In addition to the voter registration options above, qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may apply for, or change their voter registration, by mail . Voter registration application forms may be obtained online from the Department of Elections at elections.virginia.gov, from the Voter Registration office at 1600 5th Street, or at DMV-Pantops. Completed application forms may be mailed to: Box 160, 435 Merchant Walk Sq., Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Virginia residents with a valid Virginia Driver’s License may register to vote online via vote.virginia.gov.

Absentee voting for the June 11 primary election is now open. Voters who are registered to vote in Albemarle County, and who are eligible to vote absentee, may do so either by mail or in person, except for certain first-time voters who registered by mail and who must vote absentee in person. Applications to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be presented to the Albemarle County Department of Voter Registration and Elections/Electoral Board via mail: Box 160, 435 Merchant Walk Sq., Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22902, via fax: (434) 972-4178, or in person, at: 1600 5 th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
-The deadline to request, by mail, an absentee ballot application for the June 11 primary election is 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
-Mail-in absentee ballots must be received by the Department of Voter Registration and Elections by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, June 11, 2019, in order to be counted.

As an alternative to absentee voting by mail, qualified Albemarle County voters may now vote an absentee ballot in person at the Department of Voter Registration and Elections located at 5 th Street County Office Building, 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, during regular office hours. 5 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019, is the deadline for in-person absentee voting, except for certain limited emergency situations.

NOTE: Absentee ballot applications will NOT be accepted at DMV–Pantops, and absentee voting is NOT conducted at DMV-Pantops.

Under Virginia law, voters who do not present acceptable photo identification at the polls will be required to vote a provisional ballot.
Acceptable forms of photo ID include:
-valid Virginia driver’s licenses;
-Virginia DMV-issued photo identification cards;
-U.S. Passports;
-employer-issued photo ID cards;
-student ID cards issued by an institution of higher education in Virginia;
-photo ID cards issued by Virginia, one of its political subdivisions (this includes a photo ID issued by a public high school located in Virginia), or the United States;
-photo ID cards issued by any private school located in Virginia; and voter photo ID cards issued by the Virginia Department of Elections.
 

NOTE: If you are a registered Virginia voter, but do not have an acceptable photo ID, free voter photo IDs are processed at all of Virginia’s 133 local general registrars’ offices. Visit elections.virginia.gov for details.
