The Brand New Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center in Crozet Invites Community to Take Part in Program
10/21/2015

Ephemeral nature art will be discussed at the October 24th event

The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) is happy to announce the third event in a series of free programs offered at the brand new Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center located in downtown Crozet.

Dan Mahon, Albemarle County’s Park and Greenway Guy, invites everyone to a lively discussion about art and nature, followed by a wild ‘art safari’ into the Mint Springs Valley Wilderness. Guests will meet on Saturday, October 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center before traveling to Mint Springs (guests must use their own transportation). Photography enthusiasts will have wonderful opportunities to capture unique shots on this excursion.

A Master of Landscape Architecture and Bachelor in Fine Arts, Dan Mahon has had a lifelong interest in making art in nature. Early on, he showed in galleries but today, most of his work is anonymous and is often lost (or given) to the wind, erased by tides, melted, or eaten by small animals.

The goal of this series of programs is to engage visitors and locals alike, about topics related to activities and events that can be enjoyed in the western part of Albemarle County. The CACVB hopes locals will take advantage of these interesting and informative programs to learn more about our local tourism assets, hence becoming better-equipped to entice friends and family to come visit and enjoy our beautiful destination.

The new Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center is now operational and the CACVB staff is ready to educate visitors and locals about the array of tourism assets to be enjoyed in our area. This new visitor center is located in the historic train depot in Downtown Crozet, which until recently was home to the town’s library. The space inside this beautiful building is shared with a consortium of local artisans, the Crozet Artisan Depot, LLC, making it a must-see location for visitors. The Artisans are also planning to host events such as jam sessions (in partnership with The Front Porch) with local musicians at this location. The jam sessions will be from 7-9pm on the third Thursday of each month starting this September. Please check the event calendar at www.visitcharlottesville.org/visitors/calendar-of-events/ for a complete list of events.
