Albemarle County Supervisor Palmer Recognized by Virginia Recycling Association
6/3/2015

Each year the Virginia Recycling Association (VRA) recognizes the best waste reduction and recycling programs in the state. On Wednesday, June 3 Tim Lee, VRA President presented the VRA 2015 Award for Excellence in Recycling to Supervisor Liz Palmer for the Outstanding Public Leadership category in recognition of her leadership, public outreach, and participation in recycling and litter and waste reduction programs.

Nominations are sought after from the public and private sectors, business, industry, schools, government and non-profit agencies, civic or volunteer organizations and individuals. In order to be eligible for a nomination in the Outstanding Public Leadership category, a panel of judges evaluates elected officials who demonstrate leadership in advancing public policy in the area of waste reduction and recycling. Eligible individuals must have made a significant contribution to decisions about a broad range of issues including innovative waste management programs, recycling advancement, buying recycled, and the economic development of the recycling industry.

“I am honored to have received this recognition and grateful to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the Long Range Solid Waste Solutions Committee’s effort and support in this arena,” said Supervisor Palmer. “Recycling is a true economic and environmental solution, both locally and globally. Recycling is one of the few environmental actions that every single American can participate in and feel good about.”

The VRA was formed in 1990 by a group of individuals who are committed to expanding state recycling opportunities. Since its inception, the VRA has become the leading resource of recycling information for our members, the general public, the Virginia General Assembly, local government, business, and industry.
