Global Police Tweet-a-thon
6/25/2014

The Albemarle County Police Department invites you to join us for a virtual ride-along. The ACPD will be joining law enforcement agencies around the world for a Global Police Tweet-a-thon on Friday, June 27th.

This is the second year the ACPD has participated in the Global Police Tweet-a-thon. The initiative helps promote the use of social media by law enforcement. Agencies will be using the same hashtag, #poltwt, to create awareness about police work and issues officers face. It will also promote the use of social media in policing. The ACPD will be live-tweeting from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

To provide a new and unique perspective, the ACPD will be live-tweeting with an Animal Control Officer. ACOs respond to approximately 200-250 calls per month. These calls for service include responding to dangerous dog cases, animal bites, animal cruelty cases, animal hoarding, livestock issues and other animal nuisance calls. ACOs work closely with the local SPCA, Health Department and Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Their primary goal is to ensure the safety of citizens and animals through the enforcement of state laws and local ordinances.

Public Information Officer, Carter Johnson, will be riding with ACO Kim Maddox and tweeting for the department @AlbemarleCoPD.

We appreciate our Twitter followers and hope this event will be both fun and educational for our community. We also look forward to connecting with other agencies, followers and friends across the country and around the world.

Follow us @AlbemarleCoPD and check out the hastag #poltwt to follow all the police tweets.
