GRACE Gang Assessment
In an effort to address the issue of gangs in our community, Gang Reduction Through Active Community Engagement (GRACE) has conducted a comprehensive gang assessment. The results of this assessment will help us better understand what is occurring in our community. It will be beneficial as we move forward with a strategic plan of action.
The data was collected and analyzed by an independent evaluation firm which was funded through a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice. The results are conclusions from the 141 youth and adult community members who participated in interviews and focus groups. The assessment addresses everything from national trends and causation factors to specific information about local gangs, crime associated with gang members and community perceptions.
The conclusions of the study will be shared with the community in an upcoming presentation on Monday, April 14th at 1:30 p.m. at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) on East Rio Road.
In order to truly address the gang issue, it will take a comprehensive approach, involving the community. We believe education is an important first step and encourage community members to join us for these two presentations. Please become informed on the issue and work with us as we move forward with a focus on suppression, enforcement, prevention and intervention.
