Registration Opens for Second Annual Agribusiness Marketing Conference

Albemarle County Economic Development together with the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Central Virginia Small Business Development Corporation will host the second annual Agribusiness Marketing Conference on Monday, January 27, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Albemarle County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road. The conference looks to help local producers build on the success that Albemarle has achieved as an agribusiness center and destination, including being named both the top spot in the country for agritourism by the website Go Green Travel Green last September and a Top Wine Vacation Destination by U.S. News Travel among recent accolades.

"We recognize and appreciate the critical role that our local growers and producers play in sustaining a healthy and diverse economy and in promoting our desirability as a tourism destination," said Lee Catlin, Assistant to the County Executive, in announcing the conference. "We are excited to be working with our local partners to bring together resources that can support the success of our agribusiness community, which has been identified as a target industry for Albemarle County."

This conference will feature a wide variety of speakers and materials to assist Albemarle County-based farmers and foodies with business development and marketing strategies and resources. Panel discussions will cover topics such as: lines of business to supplement farm income, risks & rewards; small farm marketing experiences; where to sell; prepared food regulations; branding & marketing resources and much more. A new feature at this year’s conference are additional afternoon sessions from 1 – 2 pm focusing on: Branding Central Virginia’s Food Identity; Livestock: New Production Concepts; and Social Media Bootcamp.

The registration fee for this conference is only $15 for early registration and $25 after January 10. Anyone interested should register online at Registration is limited to 85 attendees, so early registration is encouraged.
