County Police Participate in Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative
10/21/2013

The Albemarle County Police Department, in conjunction with Martha Jefferson Hospital, is taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.  This is an opportunity to safely dispose of expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs.  The Albemarle County Police Department on 5th Street and the Martha Jefferson Hospital Outpatient Care Center at Pantops will serve as drop off locations.  You can stop by either location from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013.

Controlled, non-controlled and over the counter substances can be collected.  The program is anonymous and the identity of the individuals and the drugs collected will not be released.  A law enforcement officer will be with the distribution boxes at all times.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsors the Take Back Initiative and last April, we collected more than 1,100 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription drugs in Albemarle County.

Please help us spread the word about this public safety opportunity.
