Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue Names Thomas LaBelle as New Division Chief of Volunteer Services

Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue is pleased to announce that Thomas LaBelle has been named Division Chief of Volunteer Services. The announcement follows an extensive national search to fill the position.

Chief LaBelle is a graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York and has over 20 years of experience in fire and emergency services. He currently serves as an Assistant Chief with the North Greenbush Fire District and as the Executive Director of a statewide Fire Chiefs’ association. Chief LaBelle is a writer for a national fire service website and serves on national committees that addresses volunteer and combination department leadership issues.

Chief LaBelle will be responsible to ensure that the County continues to develop a vibrant volunteer fire and rescue force by working closely with all volunteer members and with the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Board. “Tom’s experience, knowledge, and proven ability will help us to strengthen our volunteer system so that we remain focused on providing the highest quality of services to protect and enhance the lives, property, and environment of our community,” says Dan Eggleston, Chief of Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue. 

The Albemarle County Fire Rescue system is a combination volunteer and career service that provides fire suppression, emergency medical, special operations, and community risk reduction services.
