County Improves BOS Audio Streaming Technology; Planning Commission Now Offering Podcasting
5/17/2013

Albemarle County continues its efforts to improve accessibility options in making major meetings available to the public. The Board of Supervisors launched its live audio streaming program in 2012; and while the program was successful, the advertisements that periodically interrupted the live meeting proved to be a distraction. The Board recently approved and expansion of the program which will now offer advertisement-free live audio streaming of the Board of Supervisors meetings.

Visit the Board of Supervisors website, www.albemarle.org/bos, click the “Listen Live” button and immediately tap in to the live Board meeting. This feature is only available during the actual meeting. If this page is reached during non-meeting times or breaks, an “Off air” message will be shown. If the public misses a live meeting broadcast, Podcasts of the meetings are still available online within 48 hours after the meeting.

The Planning Commission is also using technology to improve citizen accessibility to its meetings by offering podcasting. Citizens can now access audio recordings of Planning Commission meetings anytime from anywhere they have on-line access. Visit this website to listen to previous Planning Commission meetings, www.albemarle.org/PCPodcast
