Police Caution Drivers About Traffic Congestion Due to Foxfield Saturday
4/26/2013

The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) would like residents to be aware of some traffic congestion associated with the Spring running of the Foxfield Races which will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013.  This year, 15,000 – 25,000 people are expected to converge in Albemarle County to attend the event.  Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. and the first race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Traffic will be impacted by the influx of cars and buses traveling to the event.  Expect significant delays the entire day.  Officers will be directing traffic along Barracks Road, Garth Road and Free Union Road.  If you are not attending the races, please avoid these areas.

The Albemarle County Police Department will work closely with local and state law enforcement, and several private partners, to ensure that this event is safe for spectators, guests and participants.  The event will be staffed with resources from the Albemarle County Police Department, State Police, Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office, UVA Police, Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement, representatives from the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, Emergency Communications Center, Fire & Rescue, CERT volunteers, civilian staff and IT support.  The Foxfield Race Association has hired Cerberus Productions (CP) and Event Staffing Inc (ESI) to enforce private property rules, regulations and policies.

Attendees are encouraged to plan in advance of this event.  Please drink responsibly and use a designated driver if you do drink.  ACPD will be working hard to ensure that everyone is safe and has an enjoyable day at the races.
