Albemarle County Police Department Garners Recognition for its Traffic Safety Programs
8/17/2012

The Albemarle County Police Department was recognized for its traffic safety programs, receiving two honors at the 2011 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Awards.  Albemarle County was selected out of forty-one agencies that entered the state and national competitions.

Albemarle County Police Department finished in 3rd Place for Best Traffic Safety Program. The county received a 1st place award for Best Speed Awareness.  The entries were prepared by Officer Todd Lytton and Officer Jonathan Hickory from the Traffic Unit.  The judging was based on six areas in a comprehensive traffic safety program, including the agency’s policies and guidelines, training of officers, incentives and recognition, public information and education, enforcement and an evaluation of the effectiveness of the agency’s efforts.

The 1st place Speed Awareness award was the result of numerous traffic safety initiatives implemented throughout the year.

The awards luncheon was held at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, VA on Tuesday, August 14th.  Colonel Steve Sellers, Officer Lytton and Officer Hickory were on hand to accept the award.
