Explore Local Historical Attractions with the Presidents Passport Program this Weekend
2/16/2012

The President’s Day holiday is Monday, February 20. This is the perfect weekend to take advantage of the Presidents Passport program, which brings together three historic sites — Monticello, Montpelier and Ash Lawn-Highland — as key destinations for visitors wanting to continue the conversation about early American history and slavery. See the landscape of the presidents and soak up the rich historical and cultural offerings of the surrounding area.

The Presidents Passport is a cooperative marketing program designed to encourage tourism to the greater Charlottesville area cosponsored by the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB), Monticello and Montpelier.

Filled with insider travel tips and special offers from an array of local tourism partners, the Presidents Passport leads visitors on a journey through the Charlottesville region, which is not only known for its unique beauty and vibrant culture, but also its history. Discover Monticello, Montpelier and Ash Lawn-Highland and walk in the footsteps of Jefferson, Madison and Monroe on Presidents Day weekend. Through this program, visitors can also extend their journey to the Smithsonian/Monticello exhibit in Washington, D.C. Slavery at Jefferson’s Monticello: Paradox of Liberty exhibition. A joint effort of Monticello and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), this exhibit opened at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History on the National Mall in January.

Sign up for the Presidents Passport online and access over 50 exclusive offers including promotional offers at hotels and B&B’s, restaurants, historic sites and museums, the Monticello Wine Trail and more at www.monticello.org/passport. Artwork for the Presidents Passport can also be found at this web address.
