Important Notice to County Voters November 8 General Election Information

A General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, for the offices of: Virginia State Senate, Virginia House of Delegates, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff,  Board of Supervisors (Rivanna, Scottsville, and White Hall Magisterial Districts), School Board (At-Large, and Rivanna, Scottsville, and White Hall Magisterial Districts), and Soil and Water Conservation District Directors.  To see the choices that will be on your ballot on November 8, go to the Voter Registration homepage and click on “Current Ballot”
 
The deadline to register to vote in this election is Monday, October 17, at 5:00 p.m. Voters are strongly encouraged to inquire before the registration deadline if they wish to check their voter registration status.
 
Absentee voting for the November 8 general election begins on Friday, September 23, 2011.
 
Qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may apply for, or change their voter registration at the Department of Voter Registration and Elections, located in the 5th Street County Office Building at 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.  Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays. In addition, qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may apply for, or change their voter registration at the Department of Motor Vehicles - Pantops Customer Service Center, at 2055 Abbey Road,Charlottesville, 22911.  DMV-Pantops office hours are from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. through 12 Noon on Saturday, excluding holidays. 
 
In addition to the voter registration options above, qualified residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia may apply for, or change their voter registration, by mail.  Voter registration application forms may be obtained online from the State Board of Elections, at:
http://www.sbe.virginia.gov, or from the Voter Registration office at 1600 5th Street, or at the DMV-Pantops.  Completed application forms may be mailed to: Box 404, 536 Pantops Center, Charlottesville, VA 22911.  

Please note that due to staffing cut-backs, the Voter Registration Desk at the DMV office on Pantops will not be staffed full-time for the foreseeable future.  However, regular DMV customer service employees at DMV-Pantops are authorized receive voter registration applications, at the DMV teller booths, during regular DMV office hours.  
 
Please note also that absentee ballot applications are NOT received at DMV-Pantops, and absentee voting is NOT conducted at DMV-Pantops.
 
Voters who are registered to vote in Albemarle County, and who are eligible to vote absentee, may do so either by mail or in person, except for certain first-time voters who registered by mail, and who must vote absentee in person.  Applications to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be presented to the Albemarle County Department of Voter Registration and Elections/Electoral Board, via mail (Box 404, 536 Pantops Center, Charlottesville, VA 22911), or via fax (434) 972-4178, or in person, at 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.  The deadline for receipt of a by-mail absentee ballot application for the November 8 general election is Tuesday, November 1, 2011, 5 p.m.  For absentee voters who vote by mail, the completed voted absentee ballot must be received by this office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 8, 2011, in order to be counted.  
 
As an alternative to absentee voting by mail, qualified Albemarle County voters may vote an absentee ballot in-person at the Department of Voter Registration and Elections, 5th Street County Office Building, 1600 5th Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, beginning Friday, September 23, 2010.  Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.  For in-person absentee voting, in addition to regular weekday office hours, the office at 1600 5th Street will be open on Saturday, October 29, 2011 and Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.   Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for in-person absentee voting for the November 8 general election, except for certain limited emergency situations.
