Albemarle County School Board Seeks Applicants for At-Large Seat

The Albemarle County School Board is accepting applications for membership on the Albemarle County School Board, representing the County At-Large.  The appointed member’s term will begin once sworn in and end no later than December 31, 2011.  Brian Wheeler, who was the At-Large representative on the School Board, announced his resignation on August 5, 2010, leaving the At-Large seat open.

The Board encourages community members to apply for the vacant seat on the Albemarle County School Board. Interested citizens must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a qualified voter and bonafide resident of Albemarle County at the time of appointment; and
  • Submit a letter of interest stating why they are interested in serving on the School Board.  The letter of interest must be no more than two pages with one additional resume page that includes current employment and qualifications.

Virginia Code § 22.1-30 prohibits the following individuals from serving on the School Board during their term of office: any state, county, city or town officer; a deputy of such officer; a member of the governing body of a county, city or town; an employee of a school board; or a father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law or brother-in-law of a member of the county governing body. Exceptions to this general prohibition may be found in Va. Code §22.1-30. 

Applications will be evaluated and selected by the School Board.  Applications must be submitted no later than August 27, 2010 at 12 p.m. to:
