The Albemarle County Emergency Relief Program (ACERP) is intended to assist eligible clients with utility disconnections and avoid eviction. The program is designed to meet a household's emergency rent or utility needs when no other financial resources are available or in tandem with other community providers.

ACERP APPLICATIONS:
Important Notes:
  1. The required notice (Disconnection notice, 5-day Pay or Quit notice, or Eviction notice) must be submitted with the application and can be emailed to ACERP@albemarle.org
  2. Applications must be completed entirely, leaving no required information blank – Incomplete applications will cause a delay in determining eligibility for assistance.
  3. Applications may not be completed over the phone.



To be eligible, the applicant must be an Albemarle County resident and have a current eviction notice, 5-Day Pay or Quit notice, or utility disconnection notice. Applicants must also meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have a household member who is medically vulnerable (medical documentation required)
  • Have a household member under the age of 6 (age verification documentation may be required)
  • Have a household member who is currently:
    • Working with at least one or more Child Welfare or Adult Services programs
    • Receiving benefits from a state-funded program
    • Receiving Housing Assistance 

     

Authorized payments are made to vendors only; payments are not made in a client's name.
