The Albemarle County Emergency Relief Program (ACERP) is intended to assist eligible clients with utility disconnections and avoid eviction. The program is designed to meet a household's emergency rent or utility needs when no other financial resources are available or in tandem with other community providers.
Applications may be obtained and submitted at Albemarle County's Department of Social Service's front desk or by email at ACERP@Albemarle.org. Applicants may schedule an appointment to complete an ACERP application in-person by emailing ACERP@Albemarle.org or by calling 434-972-4010, ext. 6. Applications may not be completed over the phone.
To be eligible, the applicant must be an Albemarle County resident and have a current eviction notice, 5-Day Pay or Quit notice, or utility disconnection notice. Applicants must also meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Have a household member who is medically vulnerable (medical documentation required)
- Have a household member under the age of 6 (age verification documentation may be required)
- Have a household member who is currently:
- Working with one or more Child Welfare or Adult Services programs
- Receiving benefits from a state-funded program
- Receiving Housing Assistance
Authorized payments are made to vendors only; payments are not be made in a client's name.
