Service Objectives

As the community grows and it’s needs change, it is important to evaluate our ability to meet those demands. Following a comprehensive service analysis called a Standards of Cover, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors adopted service objectives for fire and EMS that allow us to objectively evaluate our performance. Although multiple objectives were adopted, response time is the primary objective and is based on the comprehensive plan areas. The response time represents the amount of time it takes for the first emergency apparatus and personnel to arrive at the incident after being notified:

  • Development Area:        8 minutes or less 90% of the time
  • Rural Area:                          21 minutes or less 90% of the time
