Virginia law requires all children to be properly secured in a car seat or booster seat until at least 8 years old. There is no minimum weight or height limit associated with the law. Consider keeping children 8-12 years old in a booster seat, until they fit correctly in a seat belt.

Knox Box

Knox Box provides first responders with immediate access into secure buildings, campuses, residences, and commercial properties when it matters most. Removing barriers to entry reduces injuries to responders and minimizes property damage.

ACFR encourages the installation of a Knox Box at all commercial properties. Visit the Knox Box website for ordering information. When you make a purchase, you will be prompted to enter your location (choose Virginia), followed by (Albemarle) as your location fire department/agency.

Working fire alarms are an essential part of your home. Your local fire station is available to check over your smoke alarms; ensuring in-date, operational readiness, and proper placement.

During this course, elementary students learn to react and act to the sounds of a smoke alarm, develop a home escape plan, and become a champions for fire safety in their own home. Sessions have been taught throughout Albemarle County schools.
