Albemarle County's online payment options give you the ability to manage current & historical online tax payments.

Pay Real Estate and/or Personal Property by Credit Card/Electronic Check

File and/or Pay Business Taxes

• Automobile Sales Tax

Online payments can be made by Electronic Funds Transfer from a Checking Account, also known as “e-checks. There is no fee for paying with an e-check.

You may also pay with Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Amex credit/debit cards.

Credit Card Company by-laws require Albemarle County to use a third-party to process online credit & debit card payments. Albemarle County uses PayPal and they charge the following convenience fees:

• Credit Cards                 2.50%
• Debit Cards                  2.35%

Minimum fee for all credit/debit card transactions is $1.95

A PayPal account is not necessary to pay bill(s) online.

Partial online payments are accepted.

• Payments will be applied to oldest balances first
• Partial payments will not constitute waiver of any penalties or interest on unpaid portions

The Automated Tax Payment Kiosk is located at Albemarle County McIntire Road Building – on the side of the building facing Preston Avenue.

The Automated Tax Payment Kiosk is open 24/7.

• Kiosk accepts Cash, Checks, and Credit Cards
• NEW: Cash change (no coins) provided for all for cash transactions
• Overpayments are applied to future bills
• There is a Credit Card convenience fee of 2.5%

The County uses a third-party vendor, Direct Mail Processors (DMP), to process check or credit card payments made by mail.

Make checks payable to County of Albemarle.

Payment must be postmarked on or before the due date to be considered an on-time payment.

  • Drop box only open from June 1^st through June 25^th and November 1^st through December 5^th (or next business day if due date falls on a holiday or weekend)

The Office of Revenue Administration is located on the 1st floor of the Albemarle County Office Building – 401 McIntire Road in Charlottesville Virginia.

Our office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (except holidays).

Payments can be made by Cash, Check, Credit/Debit Cards, and Money Orders.

Mortgage Companies and their servicers can request tax statements electronically and make payments electronically on behalf of their customers.

Mortgage companies and servicers have the option to access timely and more accurate real estate tax due information through a secure 3^rd party service provider or provide the County with their listing of parcels in the format specified in the Mortgage Company Claim File Layout document to receive a ‘Bill File’ from the County which will contain tax levy information.

Payment files from mortgage companies must be in the format specified in the Mortgage Company Payment File Layout.
