Purpose

The Albemarle County Electoral Board is a three-member body established in accordance with Article II, Section 8 of the Constitution of Virginia and Section 24.2-106 of the Code of Virginia. The Electoral Board is responsible for the appointment of the General Registrar and for the administration of all federal, state, and local elections held within the locality. Electoral Board members serve three-year staggered terms, one term expiring at midnight on the last day of each year. Two Board members are of the political party that cast the highest number of votes in the last election for Governor and one member is of the party casting the second highest number. No three-year term is shortened to comply with the political party representation requirements.

The Electoral Board usually meets once a month, and more often during the two months prior to each primary or general election.

There are no further meetings of the Electoral Board scheduled for 2025.  The new Electoral Board will post here the notice for the January 2026 meeting when it is scheduled.
