In FY25 Albemarle County maintained its deep commitment to providing a high quality education for its residents and collaborating with local partners to benefit the community. The County delivered on its commitment by breaking ground on two new educational facilities, opening employee clinics, and working with regional partners to address affordable housing. The County continued to engage with the University of Virginia and the City of Charlottesville on regional initiatives.

Goal 5 is unique, focusing primarily on the County’s partnerships and support of organizational partners. Because of this, SPEAR reporting on Goal 5 is entirely timeline-based.

Education & Learning

  • Albemarle County played a major role in organizing and sponsoring the Regional Housing Partnership: Annual Housing Summit, with over 20 County employees participating to help shape the agenda and provide event support.
  • Albemarle County launched two new employee primary care clinics in early 2025 to provide dedicated access to medical and wellness services to employees, retirees, and eligible dependents from County schools, local government, and service authorities.
  • Albemarle County broke ground in February 2025, on the first new elementary school since 2002. At 72,500 square feet, the new Mountain View Upper Elementary School will accommodate up to 500 students, alleviating current and future overcrowding.
  • Ground was broken in February 2025, on the Albemarle Career Exploration (ACE) Academy. Located on the same campus as Albemarle High School, the 60,000-square-foot facility is centrally located amongst some of the county’s most densely populated neighborhoods.
