Purpose
The Albemarle County Planning Commission is a public body established by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to §15.2-2210 of the Code of Virginia. The Commission’s primary role is to serve as an advisory body to the Board to promote the orderly development of the County and its environs and to accomplish the planning, zoning, and land subdivision and development objectives set forth in State law and the Albemarle County Code. The related roles of the Commission are to recommend amendments to the County’s comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, and subdivision ordinance, and to make an annual report to the Board concerning its operation and the status of planning within the County. The Commission also has specific duties related to individual zoning map amendment and land development applications.
Public Meetings
Regularly scheduled meetings of the Planning Commission are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, beginning at 6:00 pm, in Lane Auditorium on the Second Floor of the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA. Special work sessions, when necessary, are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm and may be either in Lane Auditorium or Room 241 also located on the Second Floor of the County Office Building. Special work sessions are announced at least a month in advance and are posted on the Planning Commission webpage and on the County Calendar. The public may attend in person or access the meeting virtually.
The public can access and participate in the meeting through information posted on the Albemarle County website, specifically on the Planning Commission homepage and the Albemarle County calendar. During the meeting, there will be opportunities for public comment on specific agenda items where input is invited.
