Zoning Clearance
To open a commercial or industrial business in Albemarle County, you need a Zoning Clearance (CLE), no matter what size or form your business takes. Some types of business operations may be conducted from the dwelling you reside in with approval of a Home Occupation.

Zoning Certification
A Letter of Zoning Certification (LZC) lists the current improvements, zoning, uses, and existing property violations and is frequently required by lending institutions. Requests for building permit Certificate of Occupancy (CO) or site plans that are not electronically available via Civic Access are made through the Records Management Officer of Community Development, here.
