ACFR Responds to Fatal Fire

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 9:48 p.m., career and volunteer units from Albemarle County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 1500 block of Simmons Gap Road in Dyke.

An ACFR Battalion Chief arrived on scene at approximately 10:07 p.m. to find a mobile home fully engulfed by fire. The first fire suppression apparatus arrived at approximately 10:09 p.m., and crews began searching for occupants and working to bring the fire under control.

One resident was inside the residence at the time of the fire and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office.
