The 2026 primary election for both parties will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to nominate candidates for the offices of United States Senate and United States House of Representatives. Register to vote or update your registration by 5 pm, Friday, July 24, 2026. Be sure to check your voter status! There are three different ways to cast your vote:

• early in-person,
• vote by mail (absentee),
• or in-person at your polling place on Election Day

Early in-person voting begins Thursday, June 18, and runs through August 1, 2026. Any voter registered in Albemarle County may vote early in-person at the County Office Building on 5th Street in Conference Room A. There will be directional signage as well as volunteers to help direct voters where to park for early voting.*

Early voting hours are as follows:

• Monday-Friday, June 18 – July 31, 2026, 8:30 am – 5 pm
• Saturdays, July 25 & August 1, 2026, 8:30 am – 5 pm
• Sundays, July 19 & July 26, 11 am – 4 pm

To vote by mail, download and complete your absentee ballot application today. You must submit your absentee ballot application by July 24. If you miss the July 24 deadline, you can use Same Day Registration to cast a provisional ballot in-person if you are eligible to register to vote. *Parking Note for Early Voting: Construction for the roundabout at the Route 780/631 intersection in Albemarle County is now in progress. Please follow all directional signage posted as you enter construction areas near the 5th Street County Office building and as you enter the early voting parking areas. Due to this construction, it may take additional time to enter and exit the parking lot. Please slow down, follow all signs, be mindful of surrounding traffic and equipment in construction zones.

Important Election Deadlines

• Register to Vote: by Friday, July 24, 2026
• Request Mail-In Ballot:by Friday, July 24, 2026, at 5 pm
• Absentee Ballots sent by mail must be postmarked on or before election day, and must arrive in the Registrar’s office by 12 pm on Friday, August 7, 2026. [Use the pre-addressed envelope sent with your mail-in ballot to mail your ballot to the Voter Registration Office at 1600 5th Street, or drop it in the ballot drop box at the front entrance to the building.]
• Absentee Ballots dropped in the Ballot Drop Box located at the parking circle of the 5th Street County Office Building must be received on or by 7 pm on Election Day, August 4, 2026.
