ACPD Makes Arrest Following Breaking and Entering

The Albemarle County Police Department arrested a man after responding to a breaking-and-entering incident on Friday, May 15, 2026.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., a 911 caller reported that an unknown person had entered their residence in the 2600 block of Hydraulic Road. The home was occupied at the time by a couple and their infant child. The suspect had fled the residence following a physical altercation with one of the occupants of the residence. The resident sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of this incident.

While enroute, officers located an individual matching the suspect description in the area and detained the suspect. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Pierre Z. Tharpe of Palmyra, Va., was taken into custody by responding officers and faces the following charges:

-Felony Breaking and entering (§18.2-92)
-Three counts of assault (§18.2-57)
-Destruction of property (§18.2-137)
-Public intoxication (§18.2-388)
-Obstruction (§18.2-460)

Tharpe is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.
