From the County Executive Jeff Richardson

Albemarle County is committed to purposeful, forward-looking initiatives that ensure long-term success for our community. Our 2025 progress reflects a commitment to modernizing services, advancing strategic economic growth, enhancing environmental stewardship, and strengthening public safety, all in service of a resilient, vibrant community for generations to come.

We improved customer service and operational efficiency with the launch of the Enterprise Permitting & Licensing (EP&L) system and the Civic Access Portal. These tools make it easier and more transparent for residents and businesses to access County permitting services. We also adopted two transformative plans: AC44, our Comprehensive Plan through 2044, and the Economic Development Strategic Plan. Together, these plans create a coordinated framework that aligns land use, infrastructure, housing, and economic growth while preserving our Rural Area and guiding thoughtful development in designated areas.

Strategic investments in the life sciences sector, including major announcements by AstraZeneca and Afton Scientific, are creating high-quality job opportunities, diversifying our economy, and positioning our region as a hub for biotechnology innovation. At the same time, we have strengthened our internal foundation by launching Employee Care Clinics to support workforce wellness and by advancing our Continuity of Operations Plan to ensure essential services remain reliable during emergencies.

Environmental resilience remains a top priority, with significant progress on the Biscuit Run Stream Restoration project to improve water quality and reduce flooding. We also celebrated milestones in public safety and civic infrastructure, including state accreditation for our Police Department and completion of Phase One of the Courts Renovation & Expansion Project.

Together, these efforts reflect careful planning, strong partnerships, and a shared vision for securing Albemarle’s future. Thank you to our residents, employees, partners, and community leaders for your engagement, collaboration, and continued commitment to making Albemarle County a place where opportunity, stewardship, and public service flourish.
