County Offices Closed in Observance of Thanksgiving Holiday

Albemarle County offices will be closing Wednesday, November 26 at noon through Friday, November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Offices will reopen Monday, December 1, 2025 on a regular schedule.

Sugar Hollow Dam High Water Alert System - Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority
---Update: 12/10/2025:--- Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) has canceled the monthly test of the Sugar Hollow Dam High Water Alert System. The recent winter weather caused delays in installing the new siren. Crews plan to be on-site in the morning to remove the old siren and install the new one. As a result, the alert system will be offline during the scheduled test. During installation and initial startup, residents might hear the siren activate briefly. If heard, there is no need to seek higher ground. RWSA monthly testing will resume on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. The new system is designed to be heard from a greater distance. Installation Testing – Tuesday, December 9, 2025 During installation and initial startup, residents may briefly hear the siren activate. No action is required during this testing. Monthly System Test – Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 10 am Regular monthly testing of the Sugar Hollow Dam High Water Alert System will occur as scheduled. This test includes remote activation from the South Rivanna Water Treatment Plant and may be audible to those nearby. Please note that there is no need to seek higher ground during the test. The test will include several blasts lasting a few minutes each and should conclude by 11 am. Due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, the Albemarle County Office Buildings will be closing at 2 pm on Monday, December 8, 2025. There will be a delayed start at 10 am on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. We encourage our community to avoid traveling on the roadways during this winter storm to allow for emergency vehicles and snow removal. If you must go out: - Visit 511Virginia.org for real-time road conditions - Keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. - Remember, it takes longer to slow down on icy roads. - Don’t drive distracted. - Avoid slamming on your brakes.
