ACPD Launches Camera Registry Program to Assist in Investigations

Post Date:10/01/2025 2:38 PM
The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) has launched NeighborLink, a camera registry program to strengthen community partnerships and enhance public safety.

The program allows residents and businesses to let ACPD know they have exterior security cameras and are open to being contacted by police detectives if a crime occurs in their area. Participation is completely voluntary, free of charge, and does not give ACPD direct access to any camera footage.

"ACPD NeighborLink is a simple tool to let our detectives know where cameras are located when they're investigating a crime. By taking just a few minutes to complete the form, community members can help us save valuable time when solving crimes," said Deputy Chief of Police Camille Stewart, who oversees the Professional Standards and Criminal Investigations Division.

Any Albemarle County resident or business can choose to sign up at no cost. Participants will always remain in control of their footage—registering a camera does not allow ACPD to view or control footage. Registry data can only be accessed by ACPD detectives during the course of an investigation for the purpose of contacting the camera owner for potential footage.

Community members who would like to sign up can visit www.albemarle.org/police to complete a short registration form. To change or delete your information, please contact ACPD's Criminal Investigations Division at 434-296-5807.
