Juvenile Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit and Firearm Incident

Post Date:09/03/2025 11:20 AM

On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) officers conducting foot patrols in the 1000 block of 1st Street South heard gunshots in the area. While responding, CPD officers observed a vehicle fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day out of Albemarle County.

The suspect vehicle failed to yield to officers and continued at a high rate of speed down Avon Street before ultimately crashing in the 3000 block of Scottsville Road in Albemarle County. Responding officers located a 14-year-old male suffering from non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. Two additional male juveniles were observed fleeing from the vehicle. An AR-style rifle was recovered from inside, and 49 cartridge casings were collected from the shooting on 1st Street South.

Local law enforcement initiated a search in the 3400 block of Scottsville Road. At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, a homeowner in the 3800 block of Scottsville Road provided law enforcement with home surveillance footage that showed one of the suspects still in the area.

ACPD and CPD continued search efforts in this area with assistance from the University of Virginia Police, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State Police. At approximately 3:45 p.m., ACPD officers engaged in a foot pursuit with the suspect, who brandished a firearm at officers before being taken into custody with the assistance of a K-9.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was charged by ACPD with underage possession of a firearm and brandishing a firearm. He is being held at the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center.

The third juvenile suspect who fled the crash scene has not yet been located. At this time, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000. Calls may remain anonymous.
