Albemarle County has been awarded $9.7 million in Virginia Business Ready Sites Program (VBRSP) development grants, administered by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), to support continued site readiness work at Rivanna Futures. VBRSP partners with localities, utilities, and state agencies to fund infrastructure improvements that create operations‑ready sites.

“We are deeply grateful to the Commonwealth for its continued investment in Rivanna Futures. This support is critical as we work to prepare the site for future economic opportunities,” said Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Andrews. “Each step forward, from advancing infrastructure design to completing site readiness work, brings us closer to unlocking the full potential of this property. The state’s partnership reaffirms our shared vision of creating a vibrant and competitive location for high-quality jobs and innovation in Albemarle County.”

The grant will help ensure the Rivanna Futures site is project‑ready, providing an advantage in attracting projects and new jobs to Albemarle County. Funding will be used to advance infrastructure design and complete pre‑construction activities that prepare the property for future development.

“County staff have been working closely with our partners at Rivanna Station, as well as regional, state, and federal partners, to advance this project since the day the property was acquired,” said Deputy County Executive Trevor Henry. “Strong coordination across departments and with external partners is essential in keeping momentum. This grant enables us to continue the critical work needed to make Rivanna Futures site-ready and a competitive location for targeted industries.”

Rivanna Futures is a key part of Albemarle County’s long‑term economic development strategy. Since acquiring the property in December 2023, Albemarle County has taken steps to prepare the site for future development, including environmental assessment, zoning updates, and infrastructure planning. Once complete, the site will be ready to attract employers in targeted sectors such as bioscience, defense, and security technology. These industries bring high-quality jobs, strengthen the region’s economic base, and enhance the area’s competitiveness for business investment.
