Albemarle Employee Care Clinic Launched to Improve Access to Health Care Services

Post Date:01/31/2025 3:16 PM

Albemarle County has launched a new Employee Care Clinic to provide employees, retirees, and their eligible dependents access to medical, occupational health, mental health, and wellness services. Operated by CareATC, the clinics are designed to improve employee well-being, ensure equitable access to care, and manage rising healthcare costs.

The clinics serve benefits-eligible employees from Albemarle County Local Government, Albemarle County Public Schools, and partner agencies, including the Albemarle County Service Authority, Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center, Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Emergency Communications Center. Retirees and dependents enrolled in the Albemarle County medical plan are also eligible.

"These clinics represent a meaningful investment in the health and well-being of our workforce," Albemarle County Chief Operating Officer Kristy Shifflett said. "By providing access to preventive care, chronic disease management, and mental health support, we are fostering a culture that supports healthier, more resilient employees that can better serve our community."

Staffed by licensed medical professionals, the clinics offer primary and urgent care, pediatric care for patients ages two and older, chronic disease management, occupational health services, vaccinations, lab testing, physical therapy, and wellness coaching. Mental health services and virtual care options are also available to provide flexible, convenient support.

"By launching this clinic system, we are giving employees and their families convenient access to high-quality healthcare while also helping control rising healthcare costs," Albemarle County Schools Assistant Superintendent Clare Keiser added. "This initiative ensures that healthcare is accessible and affordable for those who serve our community every day."

Albemarle County, Albemarle County Public Schools, Emergency Communications Center, Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center, CACVB, and Albemarle County Service Authority contributed to the initial implementation costs. Savings obtained from reduced medical expenses will pay for future operational costs.

Patient privacy is fully protected in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and the County will assess the program’s success through patient satisfaction surveys, health outcome tracking, and financial reporting.

Albemarle County joins other Virginia localities, including the cities of Danville, Winchester, and Chesapeake, as well as Hanover County, in offering dedicated employee health clinics.

The clinic officially opens for appointments on February 3. Employees can now schedule appointments through the CareATC mobile app, online portal, or by phone.
