Board/Commission Name Fire Prevention Board of Appeals 
Introduction/Overview/Duties The owner or occupant of any building, structure or premises may appeal a decision of the fire official, by submitting written application within 10 calendar days of the decision, when it is claimed that:

1. The fire official has refused to grant a modification of the provisions of the code
2. The intent of the code has been incorrectly interpreted
3. The provisions of the code do not fully apply or
4. The use of a form of compliance that is equal to or better than that specified in the code has been denied. 
Length of Term Members serve terms of five years. 
Frequency/Times for Meetings The Board shall meet upon notice of the chairman or at stated periodic meetings if warranted by the volume of work. The Board shall meet within 30 calendar days of the filing of an appeal. 
Membership The Board is to be appointed by the governing body. Members are paid $45.00 per meeting, Albemarle Code ยง 2-1105). 
Qualifications Board members shall be qualified by experience and training to rule on matters pertaining to building construction and fire prevention. Employees or officials of the local government appointing the board may not be appointed.
