Albemarle County BOS Action Items

David Slutzky

• Pedestrian Safety Issues – The planned study is ongoing and incorporating County staff’s requests to look at specific locations for installation of crosswalks.

Ken Boyd

• Maxfield Road Rural Rustic Project – Work has resumed to place the tar and gravel surface on this project which should result in completion by mid-May.  The Board will be provided a schedule for projects to be constructed this year after the required resolutions are provided to VDOT.
• Signal Equipment Upgrades on Route 250 – The project to upgrade equipment on Route 250 across Pantops is complete.  Technicians continue to work to tweak signal timing and to complete coordination with the City’s signal at High Street.  Design work for signals at State Farm Blvd. and Burnley Station is ongoing.  These projects remain on schedule for completion this calendar year.

Dennis Rooker

• Safety Improvement Project, Route 29 @ Post Office – Work is expected to begin the week of May 5^th and be completed by the end of the month.

Ann Mallek

• Durrett Ridge Road – The tar and gravel surface has been applied to the road.  Remaining work includes maintenance work on certain cut slopes to allow installation of guardrails. The bridge work is being tentatively for the week of June 8, 2008.  This will require closure of the road for approximately 3-5 days.
• Buck Mountain Road Speed Study – A request has been made to the Traffic Engineering staff to conduct a study for this route.

Sally Thomas

• Signal Analysis at White Gables – Traffic Engineering staff members are reviewing the signal warrant analysis produced by the developer’s consultant to determine what actions may be appropriate.
• Dry Bridge – Buckingham Branch Railroad has informed VDOT they intend to have repairs to the bridge completed by the end of May.  VDOT will then inspect the bridge to determine if the weight limit can be increased.

Lindsay Dorrier

·        Turning Lane Extension, Route 20/53 – Construction on this safety improvement project is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Construction

0064-002-2060, SR04; 0064-002-2060, SR04 (Emergency beam end repair to the east and west bound I-64 bridges over Stockton Creek.)

·        Contractor is in process of repairing beam ends on the WBL & EBL bridges.

ST-7B-08 (Asphalt surface treatment maintenance schedule)

•  Contractor is scheduled to begin work on secondary roads in Albemarle in June.

(NFO) BR07-002-305, C501 Deck Repairs and Latex Overlay to I-64 WBL Bridge over Stockton Creek

·        Contractor is erecting construction work zone signs along I-64.

·        Contractor is scheduled to close bridge to one lane using concrete barriers during the first week in June.

(NFO)PM07-002-228, N501 (Asphalt overly and guardrail upgrade to Rte. 29 NBL from Rte. 699 to Rte. 692)

Paving and pavement markings on Rte 29 NBL from Rte 699 to Rte 692 completed this week.    Next week contractor will begin shoulder stone operations and 1 lane of traffic expected each day from 8:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.

Preliminary Engineering

Albemarle County

·        Route 22 / 250 Intersection Improvements, 0022-002-104, C501

A preconstruction meeting was held on April 21, 2008.  Luck Stone anticipates beginning construction in late May.

• Route 631 Meadow Creek Parkway, 0631-002-128, C502, B612, B657                               

Utility relocation work remains ongoing.  Out of 21 total parcels, 18 are clear.  Efforts remain ongoing to work with the City of Charlottesville and its School Board to obtain needed right-of-way and easements.

·        Meadow Creek Parkway, U000-104-102 (City portion)

VDOT provided design details to City staff for exhibit being developed for presentation to City

Council as part of SWM design approval process.

·        Route 691 Jarmans Gap Road, 0691-002-158, C501  

VDOT is working with County staff to develop a memorandum of agreement that will allow the county to construct a portion of the project near the intersection of Crozet Avenue as part of the streetscape project. VDOT would supply funding using project allocations.   

·        Route 656 Georgetown Road, 0656-002-254, C501

A progress meeting was held with County staff to illustrate proposed impacts to affected parcels. Residency staff if investigating an existing drainage easement to determine what rights may be used in the new project.

·        Route 743 Advance Mills Bridge, 0743-002-282 P101, R201, C501, B658 (Permanent Replacement Project) Design work remains on schedule.  The public hearing date has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Spring Hill Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00 PM.
