Traffic Signal at Rio Road – Replacement of the damaged signal pole on Route 29 northbound at Rio Road is complete.

Gilbert Station Road – Spot Improvement Project – Two (2) of three (3) pipes have been installed. The last, a concrete pipe, is still awaiting arrival of materials.
Route 250 at Pantops - Traffic Engineering staff is following up on a concern identified by Albemarle County Police during a recent enforcement initiative. This concern was that traffic traveling west on Route 250 is using the center lane as a passing lane for excessively long distances.

Railroad Bridges – A request was made to VDOT’s Central Office for information on the level of maintenance for railroad owned bridges carrying vehicular traffic. The response received indicates that maintenance of these structures is the responsibility of the appropriate railroad company in accordance with the Code of Virginia. Also, the Attorney General’s office has indicated that railroad companies can not provide emergency service departments an exemption to cross railroad owned structures with overweight vehicles.
“Pork Chop” Installations at Cedar Hill and Swanson Roads – Work is expected to be completed during the month of January, weather permitting.

Advance Mills Temporary Bridge – This project continues to be on schedule according to the timeline given at the last Board meeting and repeated in this report.

Route 22 / 250 Intersection Improvements, 0022-002-104, C501

Right of way is near completion and utilities have been relocated. VDOT, Albemarle County and Luck Stone are continuing to work towards construction starting in the spring of 2008.

Route 631 Meadow Creek Parkway, 0631-002-128, C502, B612, B657

The right-of-way phase continues on this project. Out of 21 total parcels, 10 negotiations are complete, 1 right of entry has been acquired and 10 parcels are still pending. It is expected that a right of entry for the CATEC property will be acquired by January 7^th. The right-of-way revision for the City has been completed and an offer is ready to be made pending the City Attorney and Attorney General’s Office discussions.

Route 631, Meadow Creek Parkway, U000-104-102 (City portion)

Progress continues related to revised storm water design including contouring and plantings.

Route 691 Jarmans Gap Road, 0691-002-158, C501

VDHR concurred on 10-11-2007 that the project will have an effect on the eligible Crozet Historic District and seven contributing resources; however, the effect on the district will not be adverse. Public Hearing approval is pending.

All survey is completed and design work related to cross sections and drainage continues. A progress meeting will be tentatively planned for January.

Survey work is completed and preliminary design has begun.

Route 743 Advance Mills Bridge, 0743-002-282 P101, R201, C501, B658 (Permanent Replacement Project)

A meeting was held with the Consulting Parties to discuss potential impacts to the historic district and mitigation alternatives. The next step will be for VDOT Environmental staff to begin work on the necessary federal environmental documents.

Advance Mills Temporary Bridge update

VDOT will be using what is known within the Department as a Special Advertisement and Award Process (SAAP). Accounting for typical procedures, the expected timeline for this project in accordance with VDOT’s Advertisement and Letting Calendar is as follows:

· Final Contract Assembly submitted to VDOT’s Central Office by late December, 2007

· Advertisement for Bids: January 22, 2008

· Bids Received: February 27, 2008

· Award of Contract: mid-March

· Expected Begin Construction: early April

· Construction completion expected within 4-6 weeks

Our staff has a high level of confidence in this timeline provided no substantial issues develop regarding our coordination with DHR and reasonable bids are received.
