Albemarle County BOS Action Items

Speed tables are designed for 20 mph traffic and only acceptable on residential streets that are posted at 25 mph or below. Hillsdale Drive does not qualify for physical traffic calming measures such as speed tables.
VDOT has a request for a permit on this site to allow for quarry traffic. A permit has not been issued because Route 643 cannot safely accommodate this type of use until it is reconstructed. VDOT is working with the property owner for an agreement to improve the road.
The existing signing for Route 649 (Airport Road) from the intersection with Route 29 to the traffic circle is being evaluated along with the signage for the traffic circle. Advanced lane usage signing for airport traffic will be considered in this review.

Ken Boyd

Funding has been identified for the signal at the intersection of Route 250 with State Farm Boulevard. Early design work is proceeding and construction is anticipated for this fiscal year.

Dave Wyant

The low shoulder at the median of Route 250 at the interchange of I-64 at Yancey Mills will be reconstructed with asphalt as part of the Route 250 paving project that currently is underway.

Sally Thomas

Route 633 (Cove Garden Road) was reviewed for a surface treatment spot improvement. The location will require some minor grading and drainage improvements as well as approximately 200 feet of roadway to surface treat. The work will be scheduled with other spot improvement locations.
Video detection has been installed for the traffic signals at the intersections of Route 250 with the Route 29 bypass southbound exit ramp and Route 250 with Route 601 (Old Garth Road)/Route 809 (Canterbury Road).

Route 638 (Blacks Lane) is eligible as a Rural Rustic Road if the Board elects to include it in the Six Year Secondary Road Plan.

Construction Active Construction Projects

Project No. (NFO)PM07-056-177, C501 (Rte. 29 SBL Bridge over Rapidan River deck repair and latex concrete overlay) Project completed on 6-26-07.
Project No. 0618-002-6018, SR01 (Rte. 618 Bridge over the Hardware River superstructure replacement) Bridge is restricted to single lane 9’width with concrete barriers in place. Contractor has removed phase one existing wooden deck and steel beams. Replacement beams are scheduled to be placed on 7-17-07.
Project No. LM-7B-07 (Latex modified slurry paving)

Slurry paving operations on Rte. 250 from the Albemarle Co. line to Rte. 731 are complete. A portion of permanent pavement marking remains to complete project.

Project No. PM-7B-07 (Asphalt paving maintenance schedule)

Paving, pavement marking and shoulder stone placement is completed at the following areas: East and westbound lanes Route 33 in Greene Co. from Route 1103 to Route 633

Rte. 810 in Greene Co. from the Albemarle Co line to Rte. 631.

Rte. 250 from Rte. 151 to end of two lane section at the I-64 interchange.

Preliminary Engineering

Route 22 / 250 Intersection Improvements, 0022-002-104, C501

R/W is currently being negotiated. VDOT, Albemarle County and Luck Stone are scheduled to meet on July 20, 2007 to follow up discussions on the construction funding for this project.

Route 631 Meadow Creek Parkway, 0631-002-128, C502, B612, B657

This project is fully funded. The R/W phase continues with appraisals and negotiations ongoing. Target date for right of way to be cleared remains November 2007. Utility relocations will begin afterwards. This project remains on schedule for a June 2008 advertisement.

Route 631, Meadow Creek Parkway, U000-104-102 (City portion)

Project funding update: Estimated funding shortfall at this time is $5.1 million. Potential cost reductions and additional funding have been identified for $3.9 million leaving total shortfall at $1.2 million

Route 691 Jarmans Gap Road, 0691-002-158, C501

County and residency staffs will soon be meeting to discuss funding options based upon projected state funding and revenue sharing allocations. District Design Staff continues work on plan updates based upon recent development impacts along this roadway. Once these updates and funding questions are resolved, a target advertisement date will be set.

Route 656 Georgetown Road, 0656-002-254, C501

Basic Survey information has been plotted and work is underway to expand it to greater detail. Design staff is reviewing information provided by the county to clarify certain areas where there are questions regarding easements and right-of-ways. A meeting to update the scope of the project is expected in late July or early August.

Route 643 Rio Mills Road, 0643-002-P76, N501

Aerial survey is completed and follow up work is underway by ground survey crews to complete the survey.
