TO:                  Members, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors

FROM:            Billie Campbell, Chief Operating Officer

SUBJ:              Formal Adoption of the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan

The final step in the completion of the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan is formal adoption by each participating locality. The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission recommends that the Albemarle Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution as part of its consent agenda.

At the June 1, 2005 meeting, the Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the Albemarle Chapter of the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and adopted it pending approval by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. VDEM and FEMA have reviewed the Plan and found it satisfactory, with only minor revisions needed for full compliance. All revisions have now been incorporated into the one full Plan. The final step is formal adoption by all participating localities. All of the mitigation projects detailed in the Albemarle Chapter remain the same. We are sending one copy of the full Plan and a CD with the electronic version of the Plan to Mr. Tucker.

A resolution is enclosed for your consideration. Albemarle County and Planning District staff recommend adopting the Plan as a formality under the consent agenda. Of course, should you desire, a staff member from the Planning District will attend the meeting to discuss the plan and answer any questions. Thank you for your support.
