for designation of Plank Road(state route 692) from US Route 29 to US Route 250 as a Virginia Scenic Highway.



Whereas,  Plank Road is a historic road and was part of the Staunton-James River Turnpike which provided a vital transportation and trading  link in the early 19th century between the Shenandoah Valley and the James River, and


Whereas, today Plank Road provides a pleasing and diverse back road driving experience through pasture, orchard and forest environments, and


Whereas, Plank Road travels through the Historic District of Batesville, and


Whereas, the Batesville Ruritan Club is a diverse and representative civic organization serving the Batesville and Plank Road area, therefore


Therefore, Be it Resolved, that the Batesville Ruritan Club at its meeting on March 17, 2005, voted unanimously requesting that this section of Plank Road be designated as a Scenic Highway, and


Be it further resolved, that the Batesville Ruritan Club requests the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and the Virginia Department of Transportation to assist with this designation.
