BACKGROUND:

The Planning Commission held several work sessions on the Transportation Section of the Land Use Plan and the transportation recommendations in the Neighborhood and Community Profiles in the Land Use Plan. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the attached draft at its meeting on October 25, 2005.

STRATEGIC PLAN:

3.1 Make the County a Safe and Healthy Community in which citizens feel secure to live, work and play.

DISCUSSION:

The primary purpose of this amendment is to incorporate the MPO’s adopted Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Transportation 2025 Plan, the recommendations of the adopted Regional Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenway Plan, and the recommendation the of the Rural Area Transportation Long Range Plan.  These plans make up the adopted UnJAM-CHART 2025 Regional Transportation Plan (Attachment C).  Please find on Attachment A the Draft Transportation Section and the Neighborhoods/Communities Profiles that were updated. The changes are identified in bold and strikethrough. Attachment B includes the Rural Area Transportation Plan and the Jefferson Area Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenway Plan. The update also incorporates the most current data and language to the general transportation section, neighborhoods, and communities sections of the Land Use Plan.  

RECOMMENDATIONS:

This work session is to receive comment from the Board on the proposed modifications to the Plan.
