Update: STA-01-08, Comprehensive Revision of the Subdivision Ordinance.

SUBJECT/PROPOSAL/REQUEST:

Update on DISC II review of Amendment to Chapter 14, Subdivision of Land, of the Albemarle County Code, to comprehensively revise the subdivision regulations by amending most existing regulations, repealing or adding other regulations, and reorganizing Chapter 14 and renumbering many existing regulations.

At the Board of Supervisors meeting held September 1, 2004, the Board directed staff to work with the DISC II committee in developing recommendations regarding the subdivision text amendment (STA) The DISC II committee has met weekly on that task. Copies of the DISC II meeting minutes are attached.

3.3 Develop and implement policies that address the County’s growth and urbanization while continuing to enhance the factors that contribute to the quality of life in the County.

DISC II met three times during September to provide direction to staff on text to be amended and completed their initial review at their September 21^st meeting. Staff is now drafting language for DISC II that captures their recommendations. Staff anticipates DISC II can complete their review by mid October and this recommendation will be brought before the Board for a final worksession at the November 3^rd meeting. Assuming that recommendation is found acceptable, staff believes the STA will then be ready for a public hearing and consideration by the Board.

No action is required. This executive summary is an update and opportunity for the Board to question staff on the process.
