Albemarle County GIS-Web Application Now Available to the Public

2/6/2007

Albemarle County is announcing a web-based geographic information system application (GIS-Web) that is now available to the public through the County's website.

The GIS-Web will be useful to the general public as well as those interested in more detailed data searches.  Through this application, a user can query on County Real Estate property information, determine building addresses for new construction, view maps of selected properties, generate hard copy map products, and much more.

Mapping is a particularly useful feature of this application as it allows users to add many different mapping layers (e.g. school districts, voting precincts, zoning information, floodplain, conservation easements, etc.) and generate and print customized maps based on their needs.  In addition, a wide variety of points of interest can be mapped including fire stations, libraries, schools, and County parks.

Using the GIS-Web's advanced search capability, a user can search for and map parcels that meet a broad range of criteria including assessment value, acreage, previous sales information, public utility availability, etc.  Dwelling information (square footage, year built, number of stories, building type, basement type, and number of bedrooms) is also available for searches.

The GIS-Web can be accessed by clicking here or by visiting the County's website and clicking the GIS-Web link on the e-government drop down box.  There are Help and FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) sections to assist in using the application as well as an email address to direct specific questions to County staff.
