Final Deadline for Land Use Revalidation Approaching

Albemarle County is reminding citizens that the final deadline for filing land use revalidation forms is December 5, 2009.   Anyone who does not file a revalidation form by December 5, 2009,  will be removed from the land use program and will face the possibility of being assessed “rollback taxes”, which means they would be responsible for the past five years of deferred taxes plus interest.

Decoy Deer Deployed to Catch Spotlighting Hunters

General firearm season opens in Albemarle County this Saturday November 14, 2009 and runs through January 2, 2010. The Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office have received funding through the Board of Supervisors to enhance hunting control.

Riparian Buffer Planting at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport

Volunteers are needed on Sunday November 15, 2009 to help plant 1,350 trees along the stream bordering the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport. The event planners, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) and the Rivanna Conservation Society (RCS) estimate that a total of 7 acres will be enhanced to become Riparian Buffer to provide additional protection to the waterway from runoff pollution from surrounding land.

Albemarle Local Government Named Exemplary Environmental Enterprise

Albemarle County was accepted as an Exemplary Environmental Enterprise (E3) into the Department of Environmental Quality’s Virginia Environmental Excellence Program on Wednesday, November 4, at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Lane Auditorium.  The acceptance was conferred by Larry Simmons, who is the Deputy Director of DEQ’s Valley Regional Office.

The Piedmont Housing Alliance and Jordan Development Corporation Announce Start-Up of Crozet Meadows Apartments Project
The Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) and Jordan Development Corporation (JDC) are proud to announce the start-up of the $7.9 million Crozet Meadows Apartments Project in Albemarle County, which includes $4.7 million in construction spending to produce 66 affordable apartments in Crozet for low-income elderly residents.

Crozet Town Meeting to Feature Infrastructure Projects Including the New Library and Crozet Avenue Streetscape

Crozet residents are invited to a town meeting on Wednesday evening, September 30, from 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm for a meet and greet) – 9:00 pm at Western Albemarle High School to talk with Albemarle County staff about infrastructure projects planned and underway for Crozet including the new library, streetscape improvements for Crozet Avenue, affordable housing project at the Meadows, downtown Historic District, and update of the Crozet Master Plan.

Bring your family and friends to the 1st Annual Crozet Health and Wellness Fair. On Sunday, October 18th, the Crozet Business Networking Group is sponsoring the 1st Annual Crozet Health Fair from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. at Crozet Baptist Church on St. George Avenue (near Downtown Crozet).  This free event is promoting healthy living for all ages, with over 20 Crozet health care professionals providing free health screenings, education, assessments and other services.

Relocation of natural gas line will affect traffic into Dunlora, CATEC during weekday hours

Faulconer Construction Co. Inc will begin work to relocate a natural gas utility line along East Rio Road on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
