As Albemarle County continues to progress from a rural area to an increasingly suburban county, the benefits of and demands for police services are increasing.The department espouses a philosophy of community-oriented policing, which centers on a close and cooperative relationship with Albemarle County residents. Community policing creates a comprehensive crime prevention effort by encouraging patrol officers to work with citizens in their beat on a regular basis to identify and correct potentially serious enforcement situations. This program allows the Albemarle County Police Department to take a proactive approach to a variety of criminal incidents and to develop active partnerships with citizens to identify and implement creative community-based solutions.
