Information Released on Upcoming Republican Party Primary

A Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, for the Republican Party nomination for the office of: Member of the United States House of Representatives, Virginia 5th District.  The names of the candidates for the Republican Party nomination will appear on the ballots in all Albemarle County voting precincts.  Polling Places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 pm on Election Day.  Voters must vote in the precinct in which they are registered.

Please note that Albemarle County Schools will be in session on the date of the primary election.   Albemarle County voters who vote at a County elementary, middle, or high school will vote at their normal polling places – i.e., at the schools – but at some of the  schools the voting will be conducted at a different location at the school than in prior elections.   Voters should be alert for signs posted at the schools directing voters to the voting location.  Voters should note morning and afternoon school bus drop-off and pick-up times.  Voters may encounter traffic congestion and parking shortages during these times.  For elementary schools, these times are 7:30 – 8 a.m. and 2 – 2:45 p.m. For middle and high schools, they are 8:30 – 9 a.m. and 3:15 – 4 p.m.

If you do not know if you are registered to vote, or if you do not know where you should go to vote, please call the Voter Registration office at (434) 972-4173. Alternatively, voters may check their Virginia voter registration status online at: https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/PublicSite/Public/FT2/PublicLookup.aspx?Link=Registration

Please note also that completed/voted absentee ballots may NOT be presented to or received at the Department of Motor Vehicles office at Pantops.   A completed/voted absentee ballot must be received by the Albemarle County Department of Voter Registration and Elections/Electoral Board by 7 p.m. on Election Day, June 8, 2010, in order to be counted.   For any questions regarding absentee voting, please contact the Voter Registration office at 434-972-4173.
