Proposed Increase in Application and Permit Fees

The County Board of Supervisors will be considering proposed fee increases of 7.5% for the Building, Subdivision, and Zoning fees at their October 14, 2015 meeting. The fee increases will apply to applications and permits required by the Building Regulations, Subdivision, and Zoning Ordinances. In advance of the Board's public hearing, the Planning Commission will provide a recommendation for Subdivision and Zoning fees at their September 22nd meeting. Both the Board and Planning Commission meetings will be public hearings where comments will be received from the public and considered before any decisions are made.

In advance of those meetings, Community Development staff is providing a question and answer discussion for the fees on September 21st from 4:30PM to 6:00 PM in Room 246 of the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, Virginia.

This fee increase is the first comprehensive review of fees since 2010. As part of the last comprehensive review, the Board adopted a policy for regular fee updates to assure fees maintained the percentage of costs paid by the applicant versus funded by the County. The proposed 7.5% increase equates to a 1.5% annual increase for the period of 2010-2015, noting this is smaller than the increase in the Federal Consumer Price Index over the same period.

The proposed regulation and ordinance amendments can be found online at the links below:

Questions and comments can be directed to Mark Graham at or by mail at Community Development, 401 McIntire Road, North Wing, Charlottesville, VA  22902.

If requested, comments will be shared with the Planning Commission and Board at the public hearings.
