National Night Out August 5th, 2014

The Albemarle County Police Department would like to invite the community to join us for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 at Darden Towe Park on Pantops. The event is free for the public and will run from 5:30-8:30 pm.

National Night Out promotes police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie. The event compliments our efforts with Geographic-Based Policing and allows the Department to foster positive relationships with the citizens of Albemarle County. It is an opportunity to learn more about the Department and for us to hear from the citizens we serve.

There are a number of activities planned that will provide education and interaction with the community. These include a kid's fishing activity, and a K-9 Unit demo that will highlight the specific skills of our police K-9s. The Motor Unit will show off some of their specialized motorcycle skills. The Bike Team will host a bike rodeo with an obstacle course for kids. We will have DUI goggles as an educational tool for drivers. Children will have the chance to get their fingerprints taken with the Ez Child ID Kit.

We will have local sports organizations available to talk to kids about sporting opportunities and to provide some instruction and direction. Local non-profits will also be sharing information about their mission. The local Bluegrass band James River Cut-Ups will be performing.

The event was made possible with the assistance of Albemarle County Parks and Recreation and the Albemarle County Fire/Rescue Department. Both departments will be represented at the event. Albemarle County Fire/Rescue will conduct an educational burn demonstration.

We believe it is important to have this time together as a community. Please join us for this event and we look forward to seeing you there.
