Charlottesville and Albemarle County Receive Accolades from Five Leading Media Outlets
7/7/2014

The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) is proud to announce that Charlottesville and Albemarle County have received multiple accolades and recognitions in the past two weeks. The Central Virginia destination has ranked highly on multiple top-five and top-ten lists, as follows:

Orbitz Travel Expert Jeanenne Tornatore suggests the area as one of the top five destinations "every American should visit based on [its] natural beauty, historical value, educational draw, and overall appeal as a vacation hot-spot," while Travelers Today writer Will Walker touts Charlottesville's draw as a college town, saying Charlottesville "does the best job of any city on the list of combining traditional metropolitan interests with the interests of the students who frequent it. The result is a harmonious whole, balancing the resources of an urban area with the desires of the students who live there. From the historical aura of Monticello, to the entertainment provided in the famous (and recently redecorated) Paramount Theater, Charlottesville has it all, a place any college student would be proud to call home."

Travel + Leisure further honors Charlottesville and Albemarle County as one of America's Favorite Mountain Towns, noting the destination's many vineyards as well as its top-ranked barbeque, and recommending a stroll down the "lovingly restored, brick-paved Downtown Mall." Wine Enthusiast also celebrates the region's food and drink, saying "Come for the Virginia Wine Trail, stay for the restaurants." Movoto Real Estate named Charlottesville as the Most Exciting City in Virginia. This blog ranks cities according to criteria such as active life options per capita (parks, outdoor activities, etc.), arts & entertainment options, music venues, and percentage of Non Fast-Food Restaurants.

These five newest recognitions add to the impressive list of the many awards and distinctions the community has received over the years, such as "Locavore Capital of the World," "#1 Agri-Tourism Destination," "#4 Most Romantic City in America," and "Top 10 metro areas where people indicate they have the best overall sense  of well-being," to only name a few. There is no question that our region is recognized by many to be a very special place; anyone looking for a wonderful vacation spot should come and visit and see for themselves what the fuss is all about.
