July 4th Naturalization Ceremony at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello

The Albemarle County Police Department would like to share some travel and planning information regarding the upcoming Naturalization Ceremony at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. The ceremony will begin at 9am on Friday, July 4th, 2014. The ACPD is working with representatives from Monticello to ensure that the event is a safe and enjoyable celebration for everyone attending.

Monticello will be providing free visitor parking at the Piedmont Virginia Community College Main Campus at Lots 3 and 4, at 501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Free shuttles will run between the lots and Monticello from 7:30am until mid-afternoon. For best seating, Monticello encourages visitors to arrive no later than 8:30am to PVCC. Traffic officers with the Albemarle County Police Department will assist with traffic control. As a result of the shuttles, we do not expect significant traffic delays and there are no planned road closures. Message boards will be in place to direct event and non-event traffic.

The Albemarle County Police Department is also working closely with representatives from Monticello regarding event security. As with any event of this size and magnitude, the event will be staffed with additional resources from the ACPD and Monticello security. Fire and rescue officials will also be on-site providing safety services. Our main objective is to ensure the event is a safe and enjoyable one for everyone participating and attending.

We encourage everyone to plan ahead. We will do our best to get you in and out of the event in a safe and timely manner. We want everyone to enjoy this Independence Day Celebration at Monticello.
