Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run this Thursday, June 5th.

The Albemarle County Police Department is pleased to be joining our regional law enforcement partners and participating in the Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run this Thursday, June 5th.

Officers with the ACPD will join officers from all across Virginia as they carry the Flame of Hope on part of a 1,900 mile journey to the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Richmond. The seven-day Torch Run involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 agencies across Virginia.

The ACPD Tactical Team will pick up the southern torch at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson County line. They will run with the flame to the Albemarle County Police Department. The Charlottesville Police Department Tactical Team will pick up the western torch in Augusta County around 2:30 p.m. and run with it to the University of Virginia Police Department.

The Tactical Teams will deliver the flames to the ACPD Headquarters where we will host “Annie’s Run”. Annie’s Run, named after local Special Olympic athlete Annie Eplee, is the official Region 8 leg of the Torch Run. We will carry the Flame of Hope from the police department to the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville. The course takes us through the Downtown Mall on our way to the Omni. If you see the runners, please cheer them on as they carry the Flame of Hope. A number of Special Olympic athletes
will be joining us for the run and a small reception at the Omni.

This opportunity raises awareness and money for the Special Olympics of Virginia. It is an honor for our Department to support the Special Olympics and to take part in this inspiring run.
