Public Hearing Planned Re: Route 29 Recommended Concept Solutions Package

A public hearing regarding the Route 29 Advisory Panel’s Recommended Concept Solutions Package is scheduled for 6 pm in the Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014. Former VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet who led the Advisory Panel will present the recommendations package at the beginning of the public hearing.  Because of this public hearing, the previously advertised joint community meeting that was to be co-hosted by Supervisors Sheffield and McKeel on May 27 will be postponed.

At the hearing, community members will have the opportunity to address the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors regarding the US29 Advisory Panel’s concept solutions package. The Board is also interested in hearing suggestions about the best ways to assist affected businesses during construction of the proposed improvements.

The 10-member Route 29 Advisory Panel was convened by Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne March 27 to assist with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) work on recommendations for improvements to the Route 29 corridor in the Charlottesville region.  The panel was led by former VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet and included officials from Albemarle County, the cities of Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Danville, the towns of Culpeper and Warrenton, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Charlottesville and Lynchburg Chambers of Commerce and the Southern Environmental Law Center.

The US29 Panel’s concept recommendations package was presented to the Commonwealth Transportation Board on May 13, and will be considered for action on June 18.
